Agbalumo
Agbalumo , the orange-look alike brown fruit that got everyone's heart tripping is called by many names, Agbalumo by the Yorubas, Udara or Udara by Igbos, Cinwo by Hausas, African cherry or African star apple by the English. Growing up, the presence of Agbalumos in the market signifies the beginning of rains, especially in the first month of the new year ,January, when they are believed to be ripe. My mom sternly warns that one should wait till after rain falls before buying Agbalumo or mango for that matter as they are believed to be seasonal fruits. Based on creativity and advance ktchen techniques, Creative Nigerians are finding more ways to make Agbalumos more available even when they are out of season, like the Agbalumo preserves by Funke Koleosho
